A student optometrist has died in a quad biking accident while on holiday in Corfu.
Dhiren Shah was killed when his rented bike collided with a wall. He was not wearing a helmet at the time.
The 22-year-old, who was due to begin practising next month, suffered fatal head injuries from the crash which happened on August 2.
Aston University graduate, Mr Shah had travelled to Kavos with a group of eight friends on his first trip abroad without his parents. The accident happened the day before he was due to fly home.
Mr Shah’s family told the Leicestershire Mercury (August 18) that they hoped his death would be a lesson to other people travelling abroad not to take unnecessary risks. His father, Haresh Shah, said: “Life is very precious and Dhiren shouldn’t have lost his life when he did.
“I just want to say to young people going on holiday abroad ‘be careful’. It’s devastating.”
Mr Shah’s funeral was attended by more than 400 people and raised £600 for Sightsavers International.
He is survived by his parents, Haresh and Ila, and two sisters, Bhavisha and Deepa.
